BRIDGES

All bolts in bridges must be designed as slip-critical, and therefore must never allow slip at service loads. DTI’s give 100% assurance that every bolt has been tensioned correctly.

But bridge connections typically contain a large number of bolts. It’s an inspection nightmare. How to do it? DTI’s. No torque wrenches are needed, and the inspection can be done at any time.

Seismic bracing, ductile moment resisting connections, large diameter bolts, slip-critical or fully tensioned shear/bearing connections, bolts and welds in combination, are typically found in this type of frame. HEAVY INDUSTRIAL AND PROCESS

ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT

OEM designers, often using SAE J429 bolts, have historically used torque specifications in an attempt to indirectly control clamping force. More and more frequently now, realizing DTI's can directly control clamping force, OEM engineers are adding DTI's (including SQUIRTER® DTIs) as a backup.
