Checklist for solving "Can't Squash the bumps" problems
-
Is the Inspection criteria correct? check here - feeler gage inspection criteria
-
Is the capacity of the wrench OK? check here - tightening time too
long - Are the bolts, nuts, flat washers up to specification? check here - Compatible Specifications
- If galvanized hardware is used:
- are the nuts visibly wax lubricated? If not add lubrication.
- are the nuts and bolts and flat washers galvanized the same way?
NOTE - Mechanical galvanizing and hot dip galvanizing are not to be mixed on the same assembly.? check here - more on hot dip galvanizing - Improve the bolting storage conditions. Bolts must be kept in sealed kegs out of the weather, until they are stuffed in the holes. Remember, if the bolts and nuts are allowed to deteriorate unnecessarily, the extra cost of wrenches breaking and the added labor will far exceed any costs to protect the bolts.
- If the problem persists, we suggest adding lubricant either by individually waxing the nut face and bolt threads, or by sloshing a torque reducing fluid like MacDermid's Torque 'n Tension over all the nuts
This fluid is available from Applied Bolting in five gallon containers (enough to do a few thousand nuts) at a cost of us$300.00 + shipping, delivered next day. Just give us a call 1-800-552-1999.
